Vale William “Billy” Teasdell 7/1/1935 20/4/2010

The North Sydney Bears lost one of its finest on the 20/4/2010 with the passing of Billy Teasdell.

Billy was a loyal, determined and true blue Norths man.

He grew up in the Chatswood/Willoughby area and played his junior football with the Willoughby Roos. After being appointed ball boy in 1945 the love Billy felt for the red and blacks just grew and grew. It was a passion for the red and black and the game of rugby league that saw him stay actively involved with the game for the majority of his life.

Bill made his first grade debut for Norths in 1959 and played 114 games in total for the “Bears” before moving to Woy Woy for a couple of seasons and then onto the Forestville Ferrets where he played and coached. As a player Bill was respected as a fierce and hard competitor who never gave an inch and never expected anything in return.

Bill came back to the “Bears” as third grade coach during the 1982 season a role he continued in 1983.However it was in his next role that Bill really excelled. Bill was appointed senior team manager and took to it like a duck to water. Billy’s easygoing nature, quick wit, legendary one liners, and friendly caring nature made him a legendary manager. He was a mentor and father figure to the players, a confidant to the coaches and a trusted friend to all. Nothing was ever a problem if it involved a player or the team. His managerial skills were never found wanting throughout the season and of course his organisation of trips and end of season socials was legendary. The success that the club had in those years which included reserve grade premierships was a source of great pride to Bill. He would always plug the club and the players to all and sundry.

Bill was recognised for his years of dedication by being made a life member of the North Sydney Football Club an honour that was well deserved.
The best thing about Bill though was what you saw is what you got. He was a fair dinkum guy who would support you through the good times and the bad. He always had a smile for you and a quick one liner and that would always make you laugh. Nothing stressed him out and he was just great to be around. He was a fine friend and will be missed by us all.

Rest in Peace Bill.
