UPDATED - ORIGIN STYLE FINISH TO FRANK HYDE SHIELD

22nd July 2010 | Back to Full List of Articles | PDF Media Release

In Season 2010 the Frank Hyde Shield, contested between the North Sydney Bears and the Newtown Jets, has become a three match Origin style contest rather than the usual two match affair.

And like this years Maroons, Newtown has defeated the Bears in round two and nine of the NSW Cup and will attempt a Queensland style white wash for the third match in round twenty.

North Sydney, with two wins on the trot and one to play against Western Suburbs, are in the best form of this season and their last outing against Shellharbour City was one of the best team performances of the Year for Norths.

In this frame of mind, on Friday night 30 July, the Bears will attempt what the NSW Blues were unable to do - stop a three match white wash, the first in the Shield’s history.

The night will be one of the biggest on the NSW Cup calendar with the Cammeray Public School Band providing entertainment both before the match and at halftime and a match day raffle of this year’s heritage jersey – the 1970 Roy Francis strip.

The Frank Hyde Shield commemorates the late Frank Hyde, the stylish Rugby League centre who played with distinction for the North Sydney, Newtown and Balmain clubs, and who is best remembered as the peerless Rugby League radio broadcaster who dominated the ratings for more than thirty years.

So join the crowd at Bear Park on Friday 30 July at only $8 entry it’s the best deal in town.
