This Saturday historic North Sydney Oval will feature two top of the table league clashes that will see the 2007 Premier League Grand Final replay played out between Norths & Wenty and a local North Sydney Junior U9s battle between 2nd & 3rd placed Willoughby and Berowra.
The North Sydney Bears are currently on 27 points, a clear 4 points of their nearest rivals the Wentworthville Magpies and come off a strong 42-18 win against Central Newcastle and a thunderous 54-16 win over Auckland at Mt Smart Stadium.
With 13 wins and a draw from 15 starts and a style of footy that has seen new records set this is the most successful Bears team this decade. This electric side contains a good spread of 1st grade experience and young Bears talent.
With 7 of the 9 tries in Auckland scored by North Sydney talent Greg Nichols, Samu Wara and Ryan Verlinden and the experience of players such as Jeremy Smith and Nigel Vagana to steer them around the park, the 2008 Bears have defined the meaning of team work!
The Parramatta allied Wentworthville featuring Eric Grothe and former North Sydney junior rep James Maloney, currently sit on 23 points, 3 points clear of the Manly-Warringah Sea eagles. Coming off a 24 all draw against Western Suburbs and a 22-16 win against Windsor, the ‘Magpies’ have shown the edge to keep them a clear second on the ladder coming into the business end of the competition.
Prior to the big game Willoughby U9s will play Berowra m in round 12 of competition. While Willoughby U7s and Pennant Hills will play a junior league friendly.
And so the replay of all replays is set to play out on Saturday 26th of July at North Sydney Oval. After scoring 3 tries in Auckland Greg Nichols will start on the wing and after having his first run in grade this season Richard Retimana returns ready for a back up performance. George Ndaira and David Kidwell have been named on stand by for the Souths NRL.
