Bears SG Ball Show Spirit in Second Half

“Well the Boys again started slow, and with the usual errors we found ourselves behind on the scoreboard early,” began Ball Coach Shaune Wiffen.

“After a bit of a grind, unfortunately, we were the first to crack, and St George scored again in quick concession.”

Poor discipline was compounded with poor handling, and the Dragons scored again to make it 28-0.

Some good play just before halftime saw the Bears get on the board through a Matthew French try out wide.

The conversion was unsuccessful, and North Sydney went to the break 28-4 down.

“A positive halftime saw the boys come out firing and produce a half of footy we knew these boys could produce,” claimed Shaune.

The Bears were on the board early through a try to Ali Saad and with the conversion successful to Lachlan O’Riley the score was 28-10.

A try soon after to Arisento Bou-Sleiman saw the score go to 28-16 with the conversion successful and some positive signs were emerging.

“The boys however made a mistake down on our line and couldn’t stop the onslaught.” St George were now 32-16 up.

“Whilst we went down I am super proud of the boy’s effort in the second half to win it 20-8 with one reserve left on the bench.”

“We were busted and hurting but the boys kept pushing hard and well they showed the spirit that’s expected of them at North Sydney.”

Special mentions go to Arisento Bou-Sleiman on his three try effort, Matthew Hammond who played 60 minutes in the front row, Darcy Hardman who brought great energy from the Bench and lifted the team with some bone-crunching defence.

“Hopefully this rubs off and we take the second half form into the clash with the Bulldogs this week.”
