Within two minutes of kick off the Bears were on, Tui Katoa making a break that saw him slide over the white line on the hill side and light up the board. Hayman converted, 6 – 0. Only six minutes later, the Bears were on the attack again, making the most of two Bulldogs mistakes, the ball sweeps to the wing finding lightning quick Ethyn Martin who showed off acrobatic skills diving for the line to nab his first of two tries for the game. The sideline kick was waved away and the score sat at 10 – 0. Within five minutes a similar play was on that saw Martin again add the four points on the corner and again the wide set conversion was missed. The scoreboard lit up at 14 – 0. For the next twenty-two minutes both sides made a number of errors while trying to push forward and the Bears defended strongly. With four minutes left on the clock before half time, big prop forward Aitasi James barged his away across the white line giving Hayman a neat conversion from in front. The boys headed to the sheds up 20 – 0.

The favourable scoreline didn’t see the Bears rest on their laurels just yet. Near on sixteen minutes played out with neither team lighting up the scoreboard and the Bears making numerous mistakes and penalties awarded, that luckily didn’t result in points for the Dogs. Momentum shifted when Hayman made a break, chipping the ball forward to recover again himself and through sheer determination ground the ball in goal. Converting his own try, the lead extended to 26 – 0. Less than two minutes later, the Bears are in again with Bronson Garlick making a break. Hayman converted to increase the score to 32 – 0. Bulldogs kick off to the Bears, Coby Thomas sweeps the ball up, making a great break to run the field and score. Hayman slots it between the posts and Bears fans everywhere start to breathe again. Only a meer moment later, recorded at a staggeringly short 35 seconds between the conversion and the next try, Thomas is in again! Hayman converts and the lead boasts 44 – 0. The opposition have now dropped their heads, and yet the Bears are not done yet. Three minutes later the mighty red & black hit the half century as Siulagi Tuimalatu-Brown makes a break to slide over the line, Hayman converts, and the scoreboard of Bear Park shines at 50 – 0. Ten minutes remain on the clock and the team refocuses their aim at keeping the Doggies to zero. Ten minutes of solid and relentless defence see the hooter go with the Bears having put 50 unanswered points on the Bulldogs and with it jumping two spots on the comp ladder. The team now sits in 7th position and every game from now on in we fight to reach the top five. We believe in our Bears!
