State of Origin greats, North Sydney Bears legends, corporate partners, members and fans came together last Friday at Norths in support of our Red & Black Foundation and what a fantastic event it was! The room was buzzing with rugby league chatter, Bear Park Brews by Six String Brewing were proudly featured on every table and our major partner Norths served up a scrumptious three course meal. Our emcee and huge Bears supporter, James Bracey, lead guests through the event kicking off with a panel of ex-Bears featuring David Fairleigh, Mark Graham, Greg Florimo and Jason Taylor. The boys regaled tales of their time in the Red & Black and their own personal experiences with State of Origin, including Jason Taylor's stress of being named in the Blues side in 1993 as only a youngster aged 22.

Back The Bears to Win

We are now at the mid-season point of the 2022 year and have  released two membership special offers to turn our thousands of fans into members. If you haven't taken the plunge from fan to member yet, then now is the time to do it! Our Club is pushing hard for readmission back into the NRL as the 18th team and one of the big pillars that is required is strong membership numbers. We need to crack 5000 members in the 2022 year to show Peter V'Landys and NRL that the Bears mean business and are not only a serious contender in the bid process, but are in fact their 18th team.

Chairman Update May 2022

Bears have been back in the media this week with great enthusiasm as our combination of heritage, tribalism and becoming the 18th team continues to pique interests. The Bears preference for readmission to the NRL is to go it alone and this is the focus of our bid planning by our NRL Bid Committee. However, no opportunity or idea is off the table if it means a Red & Black return to the top grade. Our Chairman, Daniel Dickson, updates our Members & Fans in the above video.

Duncan Thompson 1922 Captain

Known as "The Wizard" and the "The Dazzler", Bears legend Duncan Thompson lead his team to the ultimate victory in 1922. Thompson was shot during WWI and returned with a bullet fragment lodged in his chest. Although told he would never play again, he defied the odds and went on to play in both the North Sydney 1921 and 1922 winning sides and also had a cracking tour with the Kangaroos in that same year.

Game Review: Round 1 NSW Cup

Last Sunday we kicked off our 2022 NSW Cup season with a win, defeating the Knights 36 - 24 in Cessnock. Being round 1, both teams took some time to find their feet and the lack of trial game practice prior to the comp starting was evident. Nonetheless, the Bears took an early lead with our first try scorer for the season being Tom Carr, fresh from pre-season with the Sydney Roosters, and Adam Keighran converted. Vuate Karawalevu and Naufahu Whyte were next in for the Bears just prior to the 30 minute mark and with a beautiful side line conversion by Keighran the Bears were up 18 - 0. Following a Bears sin bin and a few suss penalty calls, the Knights retaliated with two converted tries and the score was tightened to 18 - 12 at the half time hooter.
