The North Sydney Club is saddened to report the passing of Ben Haslam, 1952/54 Second Row Forward.

Ben was a tall running forward who could score a try when needed and was a member of the 1952 Norths semifinalists team that was successful against St George 21-9 but bowed out of the finals against South Sydney 26-12.

In his three years of first grade for North Sydney, Ben amassed 26 tries for a total of 78 points!

In a 1953 Sunday Herald article Haslam Clinches Victory, Ben was not only in a position to score the winning try but was part of a Norths forward pack that “took charge” and “were the side’s strength.”

Ben Haslem represented Sydney in a match against the American All-Stars played in 1953 having also represented in 1952.

Ben was also a Newcastle Firsts representative player in 1951.

The North Sydney Club sends it’s condolences to his family and friends.
