Update: 22nd August 2024
Investigations into allegations of a NSWRL breach of conduct against North Sydney Bears Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Head Coach, Pat Weisner have now been finalised. Weisner has pleaded no contest and has been deregistered by NSWRL. Weisner will be allowed to re-register as a coach in 2026.
The North Sydney Bears will start a process of seeking a suitable replacement for the 2025 season. In the meantime, our current NSW Cup Assistant Coaches, Andy Alashooty and Joel Scrivener, will be assuming greater responsibility in the coaching of the team. Alashooty and Scrivener will be supported under the guidance of Coach Mentor, Kieran Dempsey. Dempsey, who is a recruitment scout for the Melbourne Storm has been working closely with our coaching staff and players since the start of the preseason and has a great understanding of the current group and team structures. Dempsey was our last First Grade Coach back in 1999, and now 24 years later, he is excited to be back at the club in a pivotal support capacity and enjoying calling the “ninth wonder” North Sydney Oval home once again.
North Sydney Bears will make no further comment on the matter and will focus now on the remainder of the 2024 season and the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup finals series.
