• VALE PETER HARRISON

    North Sydney Bear Player #616

The North Sydney Bears are saddened to hear the news former player #616, Peter Harrison, passed away last week after a battle with cancer. Peter was 82.

Peter was a very clever 5/8 but only made 9 first grade appearances between 1964 and 1968, because international Col Greenwood was Norths 5/8 during the same period together with fellow 5/8 and centre, Len Diett. Constantly chased by other clubs, Peter always remained loyal to North Sydney and was considered the best ever 5/8 regularly playing Reserve Grade in the NSWRL competition. Before being graded, Peter was the club’s ball boy and he was also the ball boy for the Australia vs Great Britain test match at the SCG in 1958. Peter’s father was the great Rex Harrison who played 129 first grade games for North Sydney from 1934 to 1946. During those years, Rex was the regular 5/8 for NSW and he also coached Norths first grade in 1954 & 1955 with a winning record of 54%.

The funeral service for Peter Harrison will be held this coming Tuesday 16 January at Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Church, 94 Archer Street, Chatswood, commencing at 2.00pm.

A celebration of Peter’s life will then take place at The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in Kirribilli, from 4.00pm.

Rest in Peace Peter – You were a champion player and an even better man.
