Vale – Warren Chatfield

The North Sydney Bears are sad to announce the passing of first grade second rower Warren Chatfield.

Born in the heart of Bears territory, Mosman, Warren Geoffrey Chatfield began his first-grade career with Norths in 1966. By 1968 he became a regular fixture in the team.

As reported in this article of March 1971 Easts Sign Chatfield to Strengthen Pack, the “strong running robust forward” signed with Eastern Suburbs in 1971 to finish his career.

Warren arrived at Norths at a time of significant change under English coach Roy Francis. Incentives for teamwork were introduced, and a new jersey was created based on the 1921 and 1922 design.

Warren was always on hand to make meters and get a North Sydney back-liner in position for a try, including the great Ken Irvine.
