North Sydney Bears announce new alliance with the Sydney Roosters

5 September 2018

The North Sydney Bears are headed into a new era with the exciting announcement today of a new partnership that has been formed with the Sydney Roosters.

The five year agreement between both Foundation Clubs commencing immediately will see the North Sydney Bears as the official feeder club to the Sydney Roosters NRL side in the NSW Intrust Super Premiership (ISP) competition.

“This partnership will deliver a new approach for the Bears pathways to ensure we have a more competitive and enhanced football program. One of the clear objectives is for our fans, members and corporate partners to be proud of our on field performance with the clear vision to win premierships”, said Chairman Perry Lopez.

“We are truly looking forward to commencing this new partnership with a NRL club as successful as the Roosters, who are just as passionate about the Bears future success on field.

“Like the Bears, the Roosters boast a rich history, and both Clubs share a number of values centered around the development and transition of players to compete at the highest level”.

We are also very excited to welcome back one of our own – Jason Taylor as our new 2019 ISP Head Coach who will no doubt bring with him a wealth of NRL experience but also a natural and strong cultural fit for our club. Lopez added “in addition to assuming the role of Head Coach of the Bears NSW ISP Cup side, Jason will also be responsible for the development and delivery of all coaching programs.

Jason Taylor said: “The Roosters and Bears are two strong foundation Clubs, so the formation of this relationship is exciting for both organisations.

“Both the Bears and the Roosters are in my DNA, so I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and taking on the role of the North Sydney Bears ISP Head Coach” he added.
