Team Lists: 2024 KOE NSW Cup Round 7

This Sunday we go again and return back to Bear Park to take on the second place Canberra Raiders for our ANZAC Round. Weisner has the team working hard at training this week and commented "We need to improve our defence this weekend and if we can do that, I'm confident we can cause an upset vs the Raiders". Now it's time for Bears fans, young and old, to come on out to North Sydney Oval to cheer the boys home to a win.

Team Lists: 2024 KOE NSW Cup Round 6

As the red & black and white & black retro jerseys and Junior Bears piled into North Sydney Oval, the excitement was high to be finally back at Bear Park for the 2024 season. After extreme weather hit the east coast on Friday, the sight of blue sky and a blaring sun on game day was welcomed by all. And the oval really was a thing of beauty! The grass was brilliant green, the historic Ken Irvine Scoreboard in action, the cold Bear Park Brews flowed, the live bland blared its retro tunes and the footy on the field was on fire. What a way to kick off our home game series than with Bears v Magpies in the first clash of the Jason Taylor Cup. To commemorate Retro Round, the Bears team donned the iconic red & black hoops "Heritage" jersey for the game.

Team Lists: 2024 KOE NSW Cup Round 5

Fresh from four days off over the Easter long weekend the team are pumped and raring to get back out onto the field. This Sunday we return to North Sydney Oval for our first home game day of the 2024 season. It's the first clash of the Jason Taylor Cup where we take on the Western Suburbs Magpies and winner is awarded over two games on aggregate points. Bears currently hold the trophy and are keen to keep it that way. Check out the players named to pull on a red & black jersey this Sunday and it's a solid looking team. We see the return of Regan Hughes who has been recovering from injury and is biting at the bit to get back in and play. Big Nelson Asofa-Solomona returns, he has shaken off the nerves from his first game as a Bear and is ready to make an impact on the field. If you want to see some top shelf footy, this is the game to be at!

Axis Medical Update 27th March 2024

“Working in a part-time environment can be very challenging for all players and medical/performance staff managing injuries. This year we are really focusing on working with the players, so they understand how to best manage their injury in their daily lives including in their full-time jobs, alongside setting them up with specific gym and field-based rehab plans." stated the teams Head Physiotherapist George Davis from Axis Athletic Performance Lab.

Team Lists: 2024 KOE NSW Cup Round 3

The trip across the Tasman didn't slow our Cup team down, as they came out all guns blazing in Pukekohe. From the get go the team was switched on and worked hard to take a good lead keeping the Warriors to just one try in the first half. Sua Fa'alogo got the Bears on the board with a beautiful chip and chase converted by Keagan Russell-Smith. Only moments later Bears were attacking the line again, Russell-Smith puts through a sweat grubber to the corner that is easily picked up by Kieran Hayman and grounded. Six minutes along and Fa'alogo makes a break off a Russell-Smith offload and darts for the white line, Russell-Smith converts.

Team Lists: 2024 KOE NSW Cup Round 2

In hot and windy conditions, we got our Knock-On Effect NSW Cup 2024 season underway last Sunday as we took on St George Illawarra Dragons in Wollongong. Only five minutes in, Ben Talty got the Bears on the board with a straight and strong push for the line. The Dragons quickly answered jumping on a Bears mistake to even the scores at 4 a piece, and there the score remained for the rest of the half. Both sides seemed to be finding their combinations in the first half, and although the boys in the red & black made a number of errors, mostly in over enthusiasm, their fierce defence kept them in the game. "They had 10 sets attacking our tryline and didn't score, so we knew if we could control the ball, we would be in with a chance despite using a lot of petrol in the 1st half." stated Head Coach Pat Weisner. On the field, our captain, Kurt De Luis, could be clearly heard throughout the venue applauding the team every time they held out a set of six. His leadership and positive energy infectious.

Team Lists: 2024 KOE NSW Cup Round 1

With the glitz and glamour of Vegas now done, it's time for the real season to begin and what a clanger of a game we have for Round 1 of the 2024 Knock-On Effect NSW Cup. We travel to Wollongong on Sunday to take on the Dragons who will be headed up by ex-Bear Jesse Marschke. Historically, we do not fair well at Collegians Sporting Complex but this year has a fresh feel and the boys are red hot and ready to rumble. Head Coach Weisner has the team training hard and with Kurt De Luis at our helm we are heading in a good direction. This season has a lot to live up to, after coming so close to the top prize in 2023, but our focus is on taking it one game at a time. Let's bring the heat Bears! Check out your Round 1 team below >>

With one week until comp kick off to go, pre-season is almost done, trial games successfully completed and now the big job of tackling the next 26 rounds begins.

2024 KNOCK-ON EFFECT NSW CUP LEADERSHIP GROUP

At training on Tuesday, the team gathered around Head Coach Pat Weisner with eager anticipation for the announcement of our 2024 Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Leadership Team. With some on bended knee and others standing, all fixated on their head coach, listening with respect and admiration, you could feel the bond this year's playing group already has. As Weisner says, winning the two main pre-season trials helps in creating a happy group, and he is so right however the connection goes deeper than this and we hope to see their combined strength continue forward into the competition when it kicks off next weekend.

Team Lists: 2024 Junior Reps Round 4

Round 3 didn't produce the results we were looking for in our Junior Representative teams and highlighted some areas of growth required. We go again this weekend with our teams split across two days. On Saturday our U16 Academy team take on fellow foundation club, Balmain Tigers, while our two female junior reps teams play the Wests Tigers on home soil at Leichhardt Oval. The Tigers teams are notoriously tough, and the teams are preparing for a good, strong clash.

Weisner continues to adjust and bolster the team and recently signed three new players. Trey Peni swaps his stripes to come across to the Bears from the Wests Tigers. Team Lists: 2024 Junior Reps Round 2

As our SG Ball Cup team heads across the Tasman to take on the Warriors this weekend, our other four junior representative and academy teams have a Bye round. For many of the SG Ball players, this will be the first time they have played footy at a high level internationally and is a great experience for the boys. At this stage, it isn't until U19's representatives that our teams get to travel to take on the Kiwis on their home soil. Good luck to the Bears who get to represent the mighty red & black this Sunday!

Q & A – Pat Weisner

This month our KOE NSW Cup Head Coach, Pat Weisner, joined the Melbourne Storm NRL camp in Geelong alongside two of our Cup players, Jake Toby and Tui Katoa, and local junior and Bears Harold Matthews Cup player, Ben Stringer. Weisner spent the week engulfed in all things footy, canvassing for information, techniques and tactics that can be implemented back at the Bears. When he returned to Sydney, we caught up with our main man to find out some of his learnings and to see how the red & black are tracking five weeks out from comp kick off.

Let The Trials Begin: 2024

The first test for our 2024 Knock-On Effect NSW Cup squad begins on Saturday 3rd February when we take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Hills Grammar. We have four trial games scheduled this season which is more than previous seasons and a great chance to prepare the entire squad for round 1. Every player in our 35-man squad will get decent game time in the trials, although not necessarily playing every game. "Every player can expect a good hit-out that’s more realistic in terms of fatigue and conditioning." commented Head Coach Pat Weisner.
