TEAM LIST TUESDAY: 9TH AUGUST 2022
What a day we had for our big return to Bear Park on Sunday. The sun was shining, the sausages were sizzling, the kids were laughing and the Bears were on fire! With over 1600 spectators at the ground to cheer on the Red & Black, the boys brought the heat with a great spectacle of footy ending in a glorious win over the Bulldogs.
Although Bulldogs made an early grab for points within the first few minutes of the game, Bears retaliated and keep them to 4 for the whole first half. Tom Carr got the Bears on the board with his first of three tries for the game after some nice attacking play that pushed the ball up the field. With Adam Keighran nursing an ankle injury, Carr stepped up to convert his own try. Not long afterwards, Keighran put on a big hit forcing the Bulldogs to drop the ball which was snapped up by Jacob Preston who palmed a player and ran the length of the field to secure an extra 4 points. Bear continued to dominate the play with a good line break by young gun Josh Wong who goose stepped his way to the try line. To finish off the first half, Sandon Smith busted through to get the ball down on the white line and Carr converted from in front sending the team to the sheds 20 – 4 up at half time.
Again, Bulldogs took the first points of the second half and Bears dug deep to lift with the full crowd backing them. Within 5 minutes, Carr was in the corner for his second try after a long ball from Smith and the crowd were on their feet. Only another 5 minutes later, Kieran Hayman was legging it down the field after a dummy move caught the dogs off guard, with a beautiful pass on the inside to Carr who was in support and ran under the posts for his trifector of the game. Hayman converted and the Bears were leading 30 – 10.
The game wasn’t over yet, with the Bulldogs clawing their way back with two more tries off the back of some strong attacking play. However, Bears retained the lead as the crowd counted down to the final siren taking the win 30 – 20 and pushing the Red & Black to only one point behind third place on the ladder. This was a very important win for the Bears as we head towards the finals. This year it’s a top 5 finals series and our finishing position after the last round on the 28th August will be vital to our progress forward. Keep the support coming!
