VALE JOHN CHOW HAYES

The North Sydney Bears were saddened to hear of the recent passing of life member John “Chow” Hayes, aged 84. After a successful playing career with the Western Suburbs Magpies, Hayes coached our First Grade team in 1983 – 84. He was instrumental in player selection and recruitment for many years at the club and was excellent at spotting young talent. Not only could Hayes spot talent and draw them to the Bears, but he was also a guiding force that nurtured player development both on and off the field, one of the first wellbeing managers in many ways.

Greg Florimo reflects on Hayes as true clubman and a great man. “The grass has never been greener” is just one of the many saying Florimo remembers clearly of Hayes.

We send our condolences to the Hayes family at this sad time.
