The Bears Harvey Norman Women’s team took on the Wentworthville Magpies at Ringrose Park on Sunday.

With the focus this week being set completion, the Bears women had a strong start, dominating in defence and completing sets in attack with reward of two tries in the first 15 minutes.

Wentworthville took advantage of the Bears sitting in their comfort zone and lack of line speed and connection, this lead to two strong tries to the Magpies before half time.

The second half began with both team rising in intensity, the Magpies showed some great attack which put the Bears on the back foot, our defence stayed strong and we managed to hold them out from scoring. An impressive try for Lexi Kiriwi down the right edge early in second have got the Bears back on the front foot and back in the game.

Losing a couple of players in the second half meant bears needed to make some last minute positional changes. They adjusted well and settled into some great attack down the right edge with completing sets in attack and rewarded with a try to take the game.

The girls improved once again building on what we have been learning throughout the week.

With a strong and experienced line up in the Newcastle side, we are in for a tough game next week and we look forward to playing our first game on the historical North Sydney Oval for 2019.
