Vale Frank Burge and Mark Harris

The North Sydney Bears are deeply saddened by the loss of two great Bears, with the passing of life member Frank Burge and the legendary Mark Harris on Wednesday.

Frank was heavily involved with the Bears firstly as a player in the Presidents Cup team in the 1950’s, before injury cut short his career. He eventually became team manager of the Jersey Flegg team in 1987, before elevating to 1st grade manager in the 90’s. His love and support of the club was endless and he was rewarded with life membership of the Bears in 1998. Frank always had a smile and a kind word, one of nature’s true gentleman and he will be missed. A service will be held at St. Michael’s Parish, Lane Cove at 11am on Tuesday 21st January.

Mark Harris played for the Bears in 1980-1981 with 5 tries and 3 goals in 33 games. Having played out most of his career with the Eastern Suburbs club in the 1970s, Mark represented NSW and Australia, playing a total of 223 first grade games. A hard running centre, Mark had a stint at American Football before returning to coach the Junior Representative teams at the Bears. Mark was a regular at recent Old Bears days at North Sydney oval, and we will miss his humour and charm.

The North Sydney Bears would like to extend their condolence to friends and family of both Frank and Mark at this sad time.
