Game Review: Round 1 NSW Cup

Last Sunday we kicked off our 2022 NSW Cup season with a win, defeating the Knights 36 – 24 in Cessnock. Being round 1, both teams took some time to find their feet and the lack of trial game practice prior to the comp starting was evident. Nonetheless, the Bears took an early lead with our first try scorer for the season being Tom Carr, fresh from pre-season with the Sydney Roosters, and Adam Keighran converted. Vuate Karawalevu and Naufahu Whyte were next in for the Bears just prior to the 30 minute mark and with a beautiful side line conversion by Keighran the Bears were up 18 – 0. Following a Bears sin bin and a few suss penalty calls, the Knights retaliated with two converted tries and the score was tightened to 18 – 12 at the half time hooter.

TEAM LIST TUESDAY: ROUND 2 JUNIOR REPS

Last Saturday, the NSWRL Junior Representative competitions kicked off and all three of our teams went up against the Newcastle Knights. Our inaugural Tarsha Gale Cup (U19s Females) team was first up and the cheer as these young women ran out on to the field for the first was amazing. The girls managed to calm the nervous and channel the Bear and although the Knights got the first points on the board with two early tries our girls quickly recouped with Chloe Jackson scoring the first try for the team in the 20th minute and Sienna Williams converting.

BEARS GO TECH IN 2022

This season we have ramped up our use of technology to give our teams and coaching staff the best possible support when training and during game day. We caught up with our Knock On Effect NSW Cup Analyst, Pat Gough, to find out what tech is being used and how it will impact our teams. To support Pat and expand our tech footprint across the Club in 2022, we have added two new Analysts, Oscar Green and Brooke Mugridge, to assist in supporting our Junior Reps and Women’s programs.
